OAB-PE (Brazilian Bar Association of Pernambuco) comes out in defense of Joaquim Barbosa

The president of the Brazilian Bar Association in Pernambuco (OAB-PE), Pedro Henrique Reynaldo Alves, defended former Supreme Court Justice Joaquim Barbosa, whose registration was denied by the OAB. According to Alves, Barbosa's criticisms of the profession were misguided, and the denial of registration has no legal basis. "It was an act that is more political than legal. I believe that legally this act is unsustainable," he said.

Pernambuco 247 - The president of the Brazilian Bar Association in Pernambuco (OAB-PE), Pedro Henrique Reynaldo Alves, defended former Supreme Federal Court (STF) minister Joaquim Barbosa, whose registration was denied by the OAB. According to Alves, Barbosa's criticisms against the profession were misguided and the denial of registration has no legal basis.

"It was an act that is more political than legal in nature. I believe that legally this act is unsustainable," the president of the OAB-PE (Brazilian Bar Association of Pernambuco) told Blog do Jamildo. "No one can be accused of being unfit because, when a magistrate, they were hostile to the legal profession," the lawyer noted.

Barbosa's disqualification was challenged by the president of the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association) of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha Barros, following the request made by the former president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to reactivate his registration as a lawyer. If the request is accepted, an appeal to the Federal Council of the OAB is still possible.

"I think it was a courageous move by lawyer Ibaneis. He acted on his own behalf and not on behalf of the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association). However, I think it was misguided and lacks legal basis," Alves pointed out.
