OAB/AL wants security for state representative.

The Brazilian Bar Association, Alagoas Section (OAB/AL), announced this Friday (2) that it will request special protection from the Security Council (Conseg) for deputy João Henrique Caldas (PTN). This morning, he delivered documents proving the alleged misappropriation of funds from the Legislative Assembly and requested that the OAB monitor the investigation being conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) of Alagoas.

OAB/AL wants security for state representative.

Alagoas247 - After receiving the reports delivered by the deputy, the president of the OAB/AL, Thiago Bonfim, guaranteed that he will appoint a commission to closely monitor the work of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The Federal Police and the Federal Revenue Service are also analyzing the documents and preparing a dossier on the financial transactions of the Legislative Assembly. Next Monday (5), the deputy is expected to deliver the same documents to the president of the Court of Justice of Alagoas, José Carlos Malta Marques.

Regarding the request for security, Bonfim explained that the measure is preventive in nature and is due to the history of violence in the state. "There is no concrete threat. However, due to the seriousness of the reported events and the history of violence in Alagoas, we believe that special protection is necessary."

According to João Henrique Caldas, the amount allegedly embezzled exceeds R$ 19 million. He claims that the money "disappeared" from the Assembly's accounts, according to bank statements issued by Caixa Econômica Federal. "There is proven embezzlement of public funds. There is no possibility that the data provided is not true, unless there was an error on the part of Caixa Econômica. The statements are quite clear," he argues.

The congressman criticizes the information presented by the Legislative Board regarding the allegations of embezzlement. According to him, the congressmen are trying to "give an air of legality to illegal operations."

According to him, one of the ways to mask the alleged fraud would be the filing method used by the House. "There is no interest, on the part of the Board of Directors, in computerizing the Legislative system. The notes are still made on index cards, with typewriters," he added.
