WhatsApp has announced a new feature aimed at increasing security.
247 - WhatsApp has announced a new feature aimed at increasing security and control over the content shared on the app. According to a report by The Globe, The feature, called "Advanced Chat Privacy," is already available in the latest version of the app and allows users to restrict actions that could expose information exchanged between them.
When activated, the tool blocks three main operations: the export of conversations, the automatic download of files on devices, and the use of messages by artificial intelligence tools. "This way, everyone in the chat can rest assured that what is said will not leave the conversation," WhatsApp highlighted, explaining the purpose of the new protection.
The new feature can be used in both individual and group conversations, and was created especially for situations involving sensitive topics. "We believe this function is ideal for groups where not everyone knows each other well, but the conversations are sensitive, such as discussing health issues in a support group or organizing your community for something important to you," the platform stated.
To activate it, the user must open the desired conversation, tap on the contact or group name, and select the “Advanced chat privacy” option. This is the first version of the feature, and WhatsApp has already confirmed that it is preparing future updates with more options and levels of protection.
In addition to this new feature, the app maintains other mechanisms to strengthen digital security, such as end-to-end encryption in all messages, blocking conversations with a password or biometrics, two-step verification, temporary messages, control over who can view personal information, and the ability to report or block suspicious contacts.
According to the company, these measures aim to give users greater autonomy and confidence in online communication, reducing the risk of data leaks or misuse.
