The soap opera will run until Tuesday.

The national president of the PT, Rui Falcão, cancelled his trip to Recife, announced for this Friday (1). However, the leader scheduled a new meeting for next Tuesday; the idea is to let the mayor João da Costa's tempers cool down, in order to try, still, to build an agreement.

PE247 – In light of all the chaos in Recife, the national president of the PT, Rui Falcão, has just cancelled his trip to the Pernambuco capital tomorrow (1). However, the leader has already scheduled a general meeting of the party's executive committee with the main people involved in the process, in São Paulo, next Tuesday (5). The meeting should be the final point of the imbroglio that has been dragging on since the 20th of this month, when the first primaries were held to choose the PT candidate for mayor of the Pernambuco capital.

The cancellation of Falcão's visit was due to the understanding within the national leadership of the Workers' Party that it is necessary to let Mayor João da Costa's tempers cool down, as he continues to maintain his candidacy despite the party's contrary guidance, in order to try to reach an agreement.

According to PE247, despite cancelling his trip to Recife, Rui Falcão remains dissatisfied with the direction of the local succession process. In addition to his irritation with the resistance of Mayor João da Costa, the leader and former national president of the PT are also reportedly outraged by the treatment received by members of the party's national executive who are in the city, on the night of last Wednesday (30), by Costa's militants. Paulo Frateschi and company were cornered by a large group of members who were waiting for them outside the PT headquarters in Recife. The PT members' car was pushed by the demonstrators.

Last Tuesday (29), Falcão called a meeting with João da Costa and Maurício Rands, in São Paulo, to ask for the withdrawal of both candidacies and to ask that both consensually support Senator Humberto Costa. After much discussion, both decided to accept the guidance of the national executive, however, they stressed that they need to talk to their groups, in Recife, before the officialization of their respective resignations. Rands, in a press conference yesterday, informed that he was leaving the position of pre-candidate. The mayor has scheduled a press conference for this afternoon to confirm that he remains in the race.
