'We are not flirting with a coup,' Berzoini states.

The Minister of Communications, Ricardo Berzoini, said he believes it is necessary for the government to open channels of dialogue with Congress and society in order to prevent the growth of movements in favor of impeachment and the return of the military regime; "Those who like coups and a lack of democracy can flirt with that kind of situation. We don't flirt," said Berzoini; the minister also defended the need for the economic adjustments being implemented by the government in order to ensure employment and income for workers.

Pernambuco 247 - The Minister of Communications, Ricardo Berzoini, said he believes it is necessary for the government to open channels of dialogue with Congress and society in order to prevent the growth of movements in favor of impeachment and the return of the military regime. "Those who like coups and lack of democracy can flirt with this type of situation. We do not flirt," said Berzoini, this Friday (27), during the inauguration of a testing laboratory for mobile applications in Recife.

The minister also defended the need for the economic adjustments being implemented by the government in order to ensure employment and income for workers. "The Brazilian economy is undergoing a transition from a time when we made every counter-cyclical effort to ensure the maintenance of employment and income to a new growth strategy. This requires budgetary adjustments," he explained.

"We must be firm. We must have the capacity to face these difficulties in the world economy, which are also ours, so that we can continue what has been done in the last 12 years," he added, recalling the 20 million jobs created in the last 12 years. Berzoini also said that the government needs to increase its capacity for dialogue with society and Congress in order to overcome the political crisis and recover popularity, as well as approve the measures necessary to balance public accounts and resume economic growth.

"The key is to engage in dialogue and be transparent with the population. That's what makes for a healthy political dialogue that yields results. Including proving what is necessary. Always starting from the premise that the government doesn't own the truth," he emphasized.

Upon leaving the event, the minister was approached by activists from the Union of Socialist Youth (UJS), who insisted that he sign a document advocating for the democratization of the media. Berzoini expressed his willingness to discuss the matter, but refused to sign the document, stating that "one doesn't sign anything like that, suddenly. Only after reading it calmly."

"I am in favor of a broad debate on this topic. This topic needs to be debated because much of what is said in relation to the subject, sometimes when we analyze the existing legislation, is already covered. But there are parts that are not covered. And it is necessary for society to disseminate all debates about this. I support all debates that can contribute to a broad democracy in all sectors of society, including telecommunications," Berzoini told Blog do Jamildo.
