Northeastern Brazil is the main victim of Temer's economic policy, says Humberto.
Data on unemployment shows that the Northeast is the region most affected by the economic policies of Michel Temer's government; from 2015, when the impeachment process of President Dilma Rousseff (PT) began, until June of this year, 1,9 million people in the Northeast lost their jobs; "The Northeast has always been a region marginalized by Brazilian rulers. But this scenario began to change during the PT governments, and the region grew like never before. Now, we are experiencing a general setback. And our region risks being seen again with that stigma of poverty, drought, and hunger," stated the leader of the opposition in the Senate, Humberto Costa (PT-PE).
Pernambuco 247 - New figures on unemployment in Brazil show that the Northeast is the region most affected by the economic policies of Michel Temer's government. From 2015, when the impeachment process against President Dilma Rousseff (PT) began, until June of this year, the number of employed people in the region fell by 1,9 million. According to the leader of the opposition in the Senate, Humberto Costa (PT), the significant drop in the number of jobs in the region is due to a lack of investment and cuts in federal programs.
"It's clear there's a reversal of priorities. The Northeast has always been a region marginalized by Brazilian governments. But this scenario began to change during the PT governments, and the region grew like never before. Lula and Dilma showed that there is much to be done here. Now, we are experiencing a general regression. And our region risks being seen again with that stigma of poverty, drought, and hunger," the senator stated.
Humberto also pointed out that, among the states in the Northeast, Pernambuco is one of the most affected. According to IBGE data, the state has the highest unemployment rate in the country. In the May-June-July quarter, the state reached a rate of 18,8%. "The numbers show how much we have been suffering from this austerity policy. They cut the PAC (Growth Acceleration Program), the Bolsa Família (Family Allowance Program), they are dismantling public universities. Suddenly, the state, which was the engine of the country, is the one that has suffered the most under Temer," he said.
The senator also mocked the fact that Pernambuco has four ministers in the Temer government. "It's shameful to say that we have politicians from Pernambuco in this government, which, besides being the most corrupt in the history of this country, is also the worst government for our state," he pointed out.
