On the anniversary of Senna's death, another accident at Imola.
The track where the accident that killed Ayrton Senna is the scene of another incredible collision, this time in the Porsche Carrera Cup.
Cassius Oliveira_247 - On May 1st, 1994, at the Imola racetrack in Italy, an accident occurred that made all of Brazil weep. The idol and three-time Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna died after a collision at the Tamburello corner during that year's Italian Grand Prix. Seventeen years later, on the same track, now in the Porsche Carrera Cup, a motorsport championship contested only by Porsche cars, an incredible accident took place.
Italian driver Marco Mapelli was unable to avoid another driver who spun in front of him and hit him, throwing him to the left and causing him to crash heavily into the barrier. The car then rolled several times. Race control immediately raised the red flag, stopping the race. Mapelli escaped the accident with only minor injuries.
