Nelto: Caiado's term was a gift from the PMDB.
According to state representative José Nelto, Senator Ronaldo Caiado (DEM) will never be a candidate for governor of Goiás in 2018 with the support of the PMDB. Speaking to Jornal Opção, the PMDB member ironically commented on Caiado's position, saying that the senator's mandate should be seen as a gift from the PMDB to the DEM leader. Nelto concluded: Caiado has nothing to do with the PMDB. In 2014, Caiado's DEM was already a weakened party in Goiás. To gain support and a competitive Senate ticket, Caiado allied himself with Iris Rezende and the PMDB, his historical enemies. It worked, and the then-federal deputy was elected senator.
