Ceará247 - Former Minister of Policies for Women, Eleonora Menicucci, was in Fortaleza today (14), where she participated in a public hearing at the Legislative Assembly, debating the empowerment of women. In her speech, the sociologist defended a profound political reform with women occupying leading roles and democracy with gender equality.

“All women, because we are not all the same, have different choices, but we know what we want. We are in the 21st century and we want to escape the state of subordination, of being second-class citizens. We want to define the paths of our nation. We also have to fight in our micro-spaces of power to show that there is no democracy without gender equality,” she said.

Eleonora also highlighted the progress made during the PT government years, such as policies to combat violence. In the area of economic autonomy, she emphasized the approval of the Domestic Workers' Constitutional Amendment, "which equalized the rights of domestic workers, beginning the end of slavery within our homes," and the Pro-Equity Gender and Race program, which combats discrimination in the workplace. "Today we have 122 large companies participating," she informed. For her, the big issue now is to pressure Congress to approve "equal work, equal pay."

According to the sociologist, the area of health is where the most progress is needed. "In guaranteeing sexual and reproductive rights and ensuring that legal abortion services in our country are offered with high quality, along with emergency contraception for women in situations of violence, within 72 hours. This is a matter of public health for our country."
