The Free Fare Movement (MPL) is considering vacating the City Council plenary exactly on the day the group's stay will complete one month, next Wednesday (21).
The possibility of an end to the occupation was discussed at an assembly this Saturday, in front of the City Hall, and the members decided on the next steps for the movement.
According to Yuri Silva, advisor to the collective, this week will be decisive. After evaluating the House sessions, which will decide whether or not to increase the salaries of public employees, the two activists who remain in the Cosme de Farias Plenary may leave on Wednesday.
According to him, the activists' statements pointed to contentment. "The occupation was a very important element of pressure and was an evolution of the movement. The dictatorial stance of the mayor [ACM Neto] did not allow us to dialogue with him," Yuri said in an article on the Bahia Notícias website.
According to Walter Takemoto, also a member of the collective, the internal occupation ends does not mean the group will leave the CMS. "The external occupation will remain. Vacating the plenary hall does not mean vacating the chamber."
The group also intends to join other social movements and hold more demonstrations in Salvador. On the 22nd they will participate in the March Against the Genocide of Black People and on the 30th they will hold the National Day of Struggle in Salvador, together with unions and some politicians.
