Public Prosecutor's Office denounces case of femicide in Tocantins.
According to the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE), the case is related to the murder of a woman on April 12th in the municipality of Lagoa da Confusão. Following a disagreement between the couple, the accused punched, pulled her hair, and inflicted several knife wounds, including in the back, until the victim died, causing the injuries detailed in the forensic report. The entire scene occurred in the presence of the victim's son. The accused was arrested in flagrante delicto and may be tried under the Femicide Law, sanctioned in March by President Dilma Rousseff, which classifies the murder of women motivated by gender as a heinous crime.
Tocantins 247 - The State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE), through the Public Prosecutor's Office of Cristalândia, filed the first femicide complaint in the district, after the enactment of the law that classified the murder of women due to gender-based motivations as a heinous crime.
In the indictment, Public Prosecutor Thaís Cairo Souza Lopes recounts the case of the murder of a woman that occurred on April 12, 2015, in the municipality of Lagoa da Confusão. After a disagreement between the couple, the accused punched, pulled her hair, and inflicted several knife wounds, including in the back, until he caused the victim's death, inflicting the injuries that were noted in the forensic report.
The entire scene occurred in the presence of the victim's son. The accused was arrested in the act, covered in blood and carrying the murder weapon. "They had a romantic relationship, therefore the crime was committed with domestic and family violence against a woman, due to this condition. It should also be noted that the crime was committed in the presence of the victim's son," said the Public Prosecutor.
The Femicide Law was enacted on March 9th by President Dilma Rousseff. The law defines femicide as an aggravating circumstance in the crime of homicide. The text classifies femicide as a heinous crime and modifies the Penal Code, including it among the types of aggravated homicide.
