Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate flaws in Reconstruction homes

The Public Ministry (MP) of Alagoas informed, this Monday (8), that it will inspect the houses delivered by the state government to those made homeless by the 2010 floods, to investigate whether there are engineering flaws. Last week, housing complexes from the Reconstruction Program flooded in União dos Palmares and Rio Largo.

Alagoas247 According to the Attorney General, Sérgio Jucá, in addition to possible structural flaws, deficiencies in garbage collection may also have contributed to the flooding.

“The problem with the houses in Rio Largo is chronic. But, in União dos Palmares, three dams overflowed and contributed to the flooding. The accumulation of garbage is another decisive factor. What needs to exist is a drainage project to avoid situations like this. Therefore, we will carry out the inspection and, if irregularities are proven, we will file a lawsuit for administrative misconduct,” informed Jucá.

In addition to structural problems, another point being investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office concerns irregular registrations in at least one housing complex. The list of victims of the 2010 floods is being redone, according to prosecutor Jorge Bezerra, from the Rio Largo Prosecutor's Office.

"There are approximately 2.900 people registered irregularly in the housing complexes of Rio Largo. A new registration process is underway, with the work of municipal social workers, which will prevent irregularities," added Bezerra.
