Alagoas247 - The coordination of the 2nd Operational Support Center (CAO) of the MP called a meeting, which will be held next Monday (26), at the Ministry headquarters, in Arapiraca, with the president of Casal, Álvaro José Menezes da Costa, the Secretary of State for the Environment and Water Resources, Luís Napoleão Casado Arnaud Neto, and the Superintendent of Health Surveillance of Sesau, Sandra Canuto.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, Casal, in particular, will be required to provide clarifications regarding the system for collecting, chlorinating, and distributing water to homes, and why, in several municipalities, the agency has deficiencies in water distribution or, in more serious situations, does not even have a water intake and treatment plant.

Representatives from the Public Health, Public Heritage, Consumer, and Environmental Protection Centers, as well as prosecutors from the Agreste and Sertão regions of Alagoas, have also confirmed their attendance at the meeting.

The Superintendent of Health Surveillance, Sandra Canuto, stated that 54 deaths were recorded in Alagoas. She recommended that, in case of presenting symptoms, the patient should immediately begin the oral rehydration process, which can be done using homemade serum, rehydration salts, juices, water, and teas. If the symptoms do not subside, according to the superintendent, victims should seek a basic health unit to receive the appropriate treatment recommended by the Ministry of Health.

Alagoas no longer has any cities experiencing a diarrhea epidemic. This information was released on August 13th in a report from the Health Surveillance Superintendency of the State Health Department (Sesau), which confirmed a reduction in cases of the disease.
