Alagoas247 - The State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE) has initiated a preliminary investigation to examine possible irregularities in the bidding process and the contracting of the company Amorim Barreto Engenharia Ltda., responsible for the work on highway AL-105, which connects the municipality of São Luís do Quitunde to Maceió. According to the agency, a section of the road has a barrier that threatens to collapse, putting the lives of the population at risk.
The project, contracted by the state government, is still in progress. The first complaints about irregularities reached the Public Prosecutor's Office through parents of students from villages surrounding the highway. They contacted the Public Prosecutor's Office to report the difficulties students face in accessing schools after the roadworks.
According to a complaint received by the Public Prosecutor's Office, students from the villages of Pindoba, Fomento, Castanhinha, Cabeça de Porco, Lagoa Vermelha, and Barreiros have to climb a barrier about 5 meters high to access the path that leads to the school.
From now on, the hiring of the company Amorim Barreto will be investigated, as well as the bidding process carried out by the state government, through the Department of Highways (DER). During the investigation work, a hearing that should include representatives of the company and the government should be scheduled by prosecutor Sidrack Nascimento, who signed the order published in the Official Gazette this Thursday (24).
The Public Prosecutor's Office intends, among other things, to verify the existence of a building permit, which is necessary for the execution of the work.
The press office of DER (Department of Roads and Highways) informed that the department's legal sector should issue a statement on the matter later this Thursday.
