Public Prosecutor's Office initiates investigation into suspicious transfer of funds from the government to Legislative Assembly.

Alagoas247 - The opening of an investigation by the State Public Prosecutor's Office into the excessive transfer of funds from the monthly budget allocation to the Legislative Assembly has been confirmed. This information comes from the Attorney General of Justice, Sérgio Jucá, following a representation from the Union of Civil Police Officers of Alagoas (Sindpol) requesting the Public Prosecutor's Office to open an investigative procedure regarding the overpayment to the Legislative Assembly.

The union's representation, which demanded similar action from the General Police Department, based its request on a report published by the Gazeta de Alagoas newspaper last Sunday – which, according to the Attorney General, was sufficient to initiate the proceedings.

In addition to the figures researched in the Annual Budget Laws from 2010 to 2013 and on the Ruth Cardoso Transparency Portal, which revealed an additional R$ 41 million in the monthly allocation, the report also included a complaint from state deputy Judson Cabral (PT), who reported the existence of a "scheme" between leading parliamentarians of the Legislative Assembly and Governor Teotônio Vilela Filho (PSDB) to enable the overpayment. The State Public Prosecutor's Office gave the deputy five days to prepare a formal complaint – which did not happen.

The representation then came from Sindpol, which requested the Public Ministry to fulfill its constitutional duty, investigating the allegations made by the press. Attorney General Sérgio Jucá, who had been traveling to Brasília (DF) since last Tuesday, upon returning and learning of the representation made by the entity, accepted it and filed a protocol, which generates an administrative process. The Attorney General stated that he will issue a ruling on the representation today (26), ordering the initiation of the process on the twelfth case and, through an official letter, requests information from the Secretary of Finance, Maurício Toledo, to investigate whether there was impropriety or not.
