The Public Prosecutor's Office has filed a complaint with Agetop requesting the immediate repair of GO-060.
Prosecutor Carlos Alberto Fonseca filed a public civil action against the State and Agetop, requesting immediate maintenance of GO-060, in the stretch between Goiânia and Firminópolis, as well as the restoration of all vertical and horizontal signage on the road; the magistrate gave a 30-day deadline, under penalty of fine, for the services to be carried out. The condition of state highways has been the opposition's biggest weapon against Governor Marconi Perillo.
MP-GO_ The immediate maintenance of GO-060, on the stretch between Goiânia and Firminópolis, and the restoration of all vertical and horizontal signage. These were the main preliminary injunction requests made by Public Prosecutor Carlos Alberto Fonseca in the public civil action filed this Tuesday against the State of Goiás and the Goiás Agency for Transport and Public Works (Agetop).
This is the main action proposed in the case, in addition to the precautionary measure filed earlier this month. The deadline requested by the prosecutor for the completion of the road maintenance is 30 days, as well as for the completion of the signage restoration.
If the measures are not complied with, a daily fine of R$ 10 is requested, to be allocated to the Community Councils existing in all municipalities bordering the stretch of highway. It is also requested that vehicles cease to be ticketed by fixed and mobile speed cameras, which should remain adjusted for educational purposes only.
According to the prosecutor, GO-060, in the stretch between Goiânia and Firminópolis, is riddled with potholes, in an advanced and continuous state of degradation, due to Agetop's omission in preventive and corrective operation and maintenance, causing various problems for the local population and users of the road, in addition to exposing society to risky situations. Regarding the State's responsibility, the prosecutor cites its failure to fulfill its duty to operate the state's public administrative system for the benefit of all citizens who use this road network.
"Just driving a short stretch of these roads is enough to realize that their pavement has not received the necessary maintenance from the public authorities, being riddled with veritable 'craters', which greatly hinder the passage of motor vehicles," stated Carlos Fonseca.
He further adds that the poor maintenance of the highways is causing problems not only for the community, but also financial losses, since vehicle owners frequently have tires and shock absorbers damaged by the constant impacts caused by the numerous potholes scattered throughout the city. In addition, he cites the danger posed by the potholes, as drivers of cars, buses, and trucks, when trying to avoid the impacts, may run over people or even hit other vehicles.
Precautionary
Earlier this month, the prosecutor filed a precautionary action requesting that all fixed and mobile speed cameras on GO-060 be turned off until the roadway is fully restored.
For Carlos Alberto Fonseca, the disparity between the extreme efficiency of the State and that agency in collecting fines and the inefficiency, which he considers absolute, regarding the maintenance of the road network is unacceptable. He stressed that, before enforcement, the basic duty of managing the interests of users must be fulfilled.
Final requests
The merits of the action request that definitive maintenance of the runway be carried out within a maximum period of 180 days, considering the upcoming rainy season. Furthermore, it requests that Agetop be prohibited from carrying out "patching" operations.
