Professor Maria José dos Santos Ferreira Gomes died this Monday (16); Dona Mazé, as she was known, was the mother of the Minister of Education, Cid Gomes, the Secretary of Cities of Ceará, Ivo Gomes, and the former Minister of Finance, Ciro Gomes; Maria José died at the age of 86 and the burial will take place this Tuesday (917), in Sobral, 240 kilometers from the capital.

Dona Mazé was born in São Paulo, but moved to Sobral at a young age, where she married José Euclides Ferreira Gomes. There, she was a teacher at the Sant'Ana and Dom José Tupinambá da Frota schools. In 2012, she received the title of Citizen of Ceará.
