Actress and producer Ruth Escobar died this Thursday (5), aged 81, in São Paulo; in 2000, Ruth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, which, over the years, intensified and reached an advanced stage, compromising her memory and all her professional activity.

Newspapers in Brazil - Actress and producer Ruth Escobar died this Thursday (5), aged 81, in São Paulo.

In 2000, Ruth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, which, over the years, intensified and reached an advanced stage, compromising her memory and all her professional activity.

In 2011, Inês Cardoso, one of her daughters, wrote an open letter asking for help, explaining that her mother did not have health insurance.

Maria Ruth dos Santos Escobar was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1936, and moved to Brazil in 1951. She founded the Novo Teatro company with director Alberto D'Aversa and starred in plays written and directed by her husband, Carlos Henrique Escobar. Ruth starred Antigone America (1962) Mother Courage and Her Children, by Bertolt Brecht, in 1960, and Ills of Youth, by Ferdinand Bruckner, in 1961.
