Montes Claros will finally have a seismographic station.

According to Unimontes, a state university, the funds for the equipment have already been released, but there is no date set for the public bidding process. The earth trembled again, but with much less intensity, on Tuesday afternoon.

Minas 247 - After the recent tremors that frightened residents last weekend, Montes Claros is finally moving towards having a seismographic station. For now, earthquake measurements in the city in northern Minas Gerais depend on the University of Brasília's Observatory.

According to Unimontes, a state university located in the city, Fapemig (the Minas Gerais state research funding agency) has already released R$ 142 for the project, but there is still no date set for the launch of the public tender.

On Tuesday afternoon, the earth trembled again, but with much less intensity. The Fire Department was called by residents, but there were no serious incidents. The tremor was felt mainly in the neighborhoods of Renascença, Santos Reis, Delfino, Major Prates, Planalto, and in the city center. According to the Seismological Observatory of the University of Brasília (UnB), the most likely explanation is that the small earthquake on Tuesday was a reflection of the intense tremor that occurred on Saturday, when it reached 4,2 on the Richter scale.
