Alagoas 247 - The Minister of Tourism, Marx Beltrão (PMDB), commented, in an interview given to Radio Gazeta AMOn Tuesday morning (6), it was reported that the removal of Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL) from the presidency of the Federal Senate could be a major setback for Alagoas. The provisional decision to remove him was granted on Monday (5) by Supreme Federal Court (STF) minister Marco Aurélio Mello.

In the interview, Marx said that he had not seen the case files and that it is still difficult to make a value judgment regarding the case, but he has followed Senator Renan's work since he was mayor of the city of Coruripe, where he also served in the same position, and said he regretted the court's decision.

"Renan Calheiros has always been a great partner. I followed his work closely and I know how important he was to the growth of our state, always securing resources for Alagoas. As someone from Alagoas, I am concerned about what might happen to the state and whether this decision could hinder the work of Governor Renan Filho as well," he emphasizes.

SENATOR IN 2018

The minister also commented on his desire to launch his candidacy for senator in 2018. Marx said that he has never hidden his wish to run for office and that this is a personal goal, not a decision made by his party, the PMDB.

"It has always been a desire of mine, and I have never hidden this from anyone, neither from the press nor from my colleagues. This is a personal goal, and I work every day to compete for this Senate seat and do much more for the state of Alagoas," he emphasizes.
