Elected the first woman president of the Superior Court of Justice, Minister Laurita Vaz attended mass this Saturday at the Basilica of Trindade, along with Mayor Jânio Darrot and First Lady Dairdes; Laurita is from Goiás, born in Anicuns, and raised in Trindade, which is her electoral domicile.
Goiás 247 - Minister Laurita Vaz, president of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), participated this Saturday (04) in a mass at the Basilica of the Divine Eternal Father, alongside Mayor Jânio Darrot and the first lady, Dairdes Darrot. Elected on Thursday to the presidency of the second highest instance of the Brazilian Judiciary, she thanked God and celebrated with fellow citizens of Trindade the fact of historical dimension.
Laurita Vaz is from Goiás, born in Anicuns, but has her roots in Trindade, where she studied and became an active participant in the life of the municipality, which is her electoral domicile. She is a Citizen of Trindade by virtue of a title conferred by the Municipal Chamber. In a statement released on Thursday, Mayor Jânio Darrot welcomed her election "as a magistrate committed to promoting Justice and an unwavering defender of ethical and republican values."
Laurita Vaz built her career with the State as her base. She graduated in Law in 1976 from the then Catholic University, now PUC Goiás. She specialized in Criminal Law and Agrarian Law. She began her career as a public prosecutor in Goiás in 1978. She assumed the position of Attorney General of the Republic in 1984. She became a Minister of the Superior Court of Justice in 2001, appointed by former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB). She became a full member of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in 2012.
The mayor mentions the challenge awaiting the minister from Goiás, "insofar as she will act directly in the mission of improving the Justice system at a time when the country is clamoring for the restoration of ethics, the strengthening of institutions, and the unrestricted defense of the Democratic Rule of Law."
