Minas Gerais records 163 deaths from dengue fever in 2016.

According to the State Health Secretariat (SES), the municipalities with the highest number of victims of the disease are Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora, with 39 and 35 deaths, respectively; regarding the Zika virus, 4.344 cases have been confirmed in the state; the department also reported that 1.784 cases of chikungunya have been notified this year: 93 of these confirmed and 715 remain under investigation.

Mines 247 - The State Health Department (SES) reported this Wednesday (14) that the number of deaths from dengue in Minas Gerais in 2016 has risen to 163. The municipalities with the highest number of victims of the disease are Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora, with 39 and 35 deaths, respectively.

There were 518.656 probable cases of the disease registered in the state until Monday (27). The number of probable cases this year already exceeds that of 2013 (414.548) by more than 100. In the last five years, 2013 was the year with the highest incidence of the disease.

The age group with the highest number of deaths is over 80 years old, with 48 deaths recorded, followed by people aged 65 to 79, with 40 deaths.

Zika virus

Regarding the Zika virus, 4.344 cases have been confirmed in the state. An additional 275 cases of acute illness from the virus have also been confirmed in pregnant women. The health department also reported 118 cases under the microcephaly monitoring protocol. Two cases associated with Zika virus infection have been confirmed.

Chikungunya

The ministry also reported that 1.784 cases of chikungunya have been reported this year: 93 of these confirmed and 715 still under investigation.
