Military launches movement against managers.

Through a black bracelet signifying the "Mourning for Society" movement, military personnel from Alagoas are calling on other members of the police force and civil society to protest against security officials. "This bracelet shows our reaction to the stance of the governor and others responsible for public security," explains the president of the Association of Military Firefighters of Alagoas (ABMAL), Sergeant Marcos Ramalho.

Alagoas247 - The president of the Alagoas Military Firefighters Association (ABMAL), Sergeant Marcos Ramalho, invited all members of the Military and Civil Police, as well as the public, to protest against what he describes as the mismanagement of those responsible for public security in the state. Through a black bracelet, representing the "Mourning for Society" movement, Ramalho intends to show the people of Alagoas that the high crime rates are not the responsibility of public security agents.

According to Ramalho, the military personnel who go out into the streets to combat crime are also victims of neglect by public authorities, financed by Governor Teotonio Vilela Filho (PSDB) and members of the Alagoas State Secretariat of Social Defense. The military officer clarified that the movement is not intended to be insubordinate against the unit commanders, but rather against the managers who should be prioritizing actions against crime.

“All of this context of crime directly affects all of us in the military. This campaign with the black armband aims to show that we are mourning the number of deaths, as well as the situation that military personnel face on the streets. We are not satisfied with the high crime rates. This armband shows our reaction to the stance of the governor and others responsible for public safety. As a way of reacting to our protest, the battalion commanders are reopening administrative investigations that had been shelved since 2012. Despite this stance, we will continue to protest on behalf of Alagoas society,” the military officer pointed out.

The black bracelet movement began in São Paulo due to high crime rates. In Alagoas, the movement started a few days ago and, according to Ramalho, has already gained a large number of supporters both inside and outside the police and fire department battalions. “We are aware of our obligation to the people of Alagoas. Therefore, we cannot shirk our mission to confront and combat crime. Even so, with violence plaguing the entire state, we will have a reduction in investment in the Military Police and Fire Department in 2014. The entire force is united and we are proud to be part of this movement,” the officer stated.

Despite the chaotic scenario described, Ramalho assures that all military personnel have been doing their part in fulfilling the mission of safeguarding the people of Alagoas. “A truth that very few know is that the work in the battalions happens because the soldiers approach their service with love and responsibility, as they have total respect for what they do. This week, we will have assemblies with our colleagues, and I have no doubt that the number of participants will grow substantially. We are guiding the troops to continue on this path and show, once again, that we are doing our part. The colleagues who are on the streets are doing their part admirably. It is up to the other authorities to take responsibility and react to this scenario of so much violence,” he concluded.
