Sebrae Agency - Micro and small businesses once again showed a negative balance in job creation in October. After two consecutive months with more hires than layoffs, small businesses closed 15,4 positions. In August and September, 12,7 jobs were created.

Despite this, the number of jobs lost in small businesses in October is almost four times lower than that of medium and large companies, which laid off 56,8 employees. When comparing layoffs year-to-date, small businesses closed 46,5 positions, a number 15 times lower than that of larger companies, which have accumulated a negative balance of 720,9.

“The recovery of economic growth depends on small businesses. For two months, we hired more than we fired, but to continue with good performance, more credit and possibilities for debt renegotiation are necessary,” highlights the president of Sebrae, Guilherme Afif Domingos.

Although the Services sector closed jobs last month (1,7), it is the sector with the highest number of new job creations in the year to date. In the first ten months of 2016, companies in this sector created 113,9 new jobs. Services and Agriculture are the only two sectors showing a positive balance for the year.
