Raphael Coutinho _PE247 – The campaign to combat polio carried out by the Recife City Hall has managed to vaccinate around 102 children so far. This number corresponds to 99% of the target audience, made up of boys and girls under five years old, and exceeds the target set by the Ministry of Health, of 95% of the population in this age group. However, until 17 pm this Friday (20), parents or guardians can still take their children to receive the dose at one of the more than 160 units in the municipal network.

“Once again we have reached our goal. It is important to continue the mobilization as long as there are cases of the disease in the world. Even if we do not have new records of polio in Brazil, it is necessary to continue the campaign to prevent the reintroduction of the virus that causes the disease,” recalled the coordinator of the Immunization Program of Recife, Elizabeth Azoubel.

The vaccine is administered with two drops and protects against polio. For further information, such as finding the nearest health center for vaccination, citizens can call the Recife SUS Ombudsman's Office toll-free at 0800.281.1520. Telephone service is available Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 19 pm.
