Bahia_247 - The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Aloizio Mercadante, will present this Friday (4), in Salvador, the Scientific and Technological Development Plan for the Northeast, which is being processed in the Chamber of Deputies, in Brasília. Mercadante will participate in the Northeast XXI Debate Cycle, an event promoted by Banco do Nordeste (BNB) and Instituto Nordeste XXI.

The Plan proposes the creation of the Northeast Council for Scientific and Technological Development, which would be composed of local institutions in the sector to define criteria for the application of resources from sectoral funds allocated to the region, approximately R$ 200 million per year, according to the Instituto Nordeste XXI. It also foresees the installation of an agency of the Financing Agency for Studies and Projects (Finep) within the BNB (Banco do Nordeste), in Fortaleza (CE).

According to the proponents of the Plan, spearheaded by the Northeast Caucus in the Chamber of Deputies, the current distribution of federal resources to the region (which is done through public calls for proposals) is concentrated and unequal. Furthermore, it does not include priority projects in state science and technology policies, due to inter-regional disparities.

The event will also discuss funding options for innovation projects in micro and small businesses.
