Police doctors at the Forensic Medical Institute are causing harm to the hospital.
The Military Police Hospital of Alagoas is experiencing a shortage of medical care for military personnel. Following a decision by the State Public Security Council (Conseg), which requires doctors from the Fire Department and the Military Police to fulfill a work schedule at the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) in Maceió, the health unit is facing operational restrictions.
Alagoas247 - According to the president of the Association of Military Officers of Alagoas (Assomal), Major Wellington Fragoso, on the morning of this Thursday (1st) alone, around 30 appointments were suspended due to a lack of specialized doctors at the corporation's Hospital.
"We have two female medical captains at the IML (Institute of Legal Medicine) following the council's order. They are specialized doctors for performing echocardiograms and general clinical exams, and they have stopped attending to 30 patients, including military personnel from the interior. It is absurd that military doctors are being diverted from their duties at the behest of the Conseg (Community Security Council)," stated Major Fragoso.
According to the president of Assomal, the doctors arrived at the institute at 7:00 AM and had to wait outside until 8:00 AM, waiting for the forensic experts to arrive. "Since arriving at the IML, our doctors haven't performed any procedures; there was no one to attend to them. However, they are required to stay until 1:00 PM, but the institute operates from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and then from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM," said Major Fragoso.
According to Major Fragoso, this decision violates the law and the regulations of the Medical Council, which requires specialized professionals to work in medical fields. "The State Government must acknowledge the error and call for a public competition, and as a temporary measure, call upon retired forensic doctors and provide them with bonuses, or even doctors from the Health Department who are available to take over the activities of the Forensic Medical Institute. Our doctors are not specialized to work as experts or forensic doctors," he stated.
The president informed that the association's lawyers filed a request for a writ of mandamus seeking the removal of these doctors from the IML (Institute of Legal Medicine). "We are going to seek their rights. They cannot be subjected to this," he explained. The decision regarding the mandatory presence of doctors from the Military Police and the Fire Department at the IML was published in the Official Gazette last week. It is valid for three months and can be extended for another three.
