247 - Mastologist Danilo Costa, 46, was arrested this Tuesday (3) in Itabira, in the Central Region of Minas Gerais, on suspicion of raping a breast cancer patient during a consultation at the outpatient clinic of Hospital Nossa Senhora das Dores. The case, which occurred on the 24th, was reported by the victim's daughter, who told the Military Police (PM) that her mother arrived home extremely shaken after the appointment. The information is from the portal G1.

According to the police report, the patient was allegedly raped by the doctor during the consultation. "The victim arrived home in tears, claiming that the doctor raped her. She said that upon entering the room, he closed the door, did not greet her, pinned her against the wall, lifted her skirt, and raped her," the police report describes. After the crime, Danilo Costa allegedly gave the patient a prescription and scheduled a new appointment for 90 days later, asking her to leave "through the side corridor so as not to be noticed."

The victim's daughter told police that her mother is an oncology patient and has been undergoing treatment with the doctor for quite some time. The woman underwent a forensic medical examination, and the case is being investigated by the Civil Police. Danilo Costa's lawyer, Hermes Vilchez Guerrero, denied the accusations and stated that the defense is "taking the necessary steps to reverse the arrest." "The accusation is unfounded," declared the lawyer.

Other allegations emerge during the investigation.

During the investigations, other women reported possible cases of abuse committed by the mastologist. Detective João Martins Teixeira, responsible for the inquiry, stated that new victims emerged during the course of the process. "More victims appeared during the course of the investigation. Some other women who had been patients and also employees of the hospital where he worked contacted us and reported other cases of violation of sexual rights," said the detective.

According to Teixeira, the accounts from the other victims involve similar conduct, such as "inappropriate touching, grabbing, and forced kisses." However, the case of the cancer patient stood out due to its severity. "This was the most violent case," the police chief emphasized.

Professional recognition and hospital disapproval.

Danilo Costa was a recognized professional in the region. Last August, he received a "Vote of Congratulations" from the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG) for his work in the treatment of breast cancer in Itabira and 28 other municipalities. This tribute contrasts sharply with the serious accusations now weighing against him.

In a statement, Hospital Nossa Senhora das Dores condemned the incident and announced that it has suspended the doctor from his duties until the investigations are concluded. The institution also stated that it is cooperating with the authorities. The Regional Council of Medicine (CRM) of Minas Gerais has not yet commented on the case.
