Marin strengthened behind the scenes of the national team's game in the South.
The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) fraternizes with fifteen presidents of state federations; Governor Tarso Genro, former Speaker of the House Marco Maia, and Congressman Vicente Cândido greet José Maria Marin and Vice-President Marco Polo Del Nero; Andres Sanchez is in decline.
247 – The CBF leadership believes a long period of unity is underway within the organization. In Porto Alegre, where the Brazilian national team plays against France starting at 16:00 PM, president José Maria Marin and vice-president Marco Polo Del Nero were honored by fifteen presidents of federations, in addition to receiving congratulations from Governor Tarso Genro, congressman and former president of the Chamber of Deputies Marco Maia, and federal deputy Vicente Cândido, all from the PT party in Rio Grande do Sul.
During a lunch meeting between the presidents of state federations, it became clear that a strong candidate to succeed Marin next year will necessarily need the support of the current president. The former president of Corinthians, Andrés Sanchez, who is vying for the position, has been criticized behind the scenes. He is increasingly seen as a candidate who opposes the interests of various state federations.
"We will not allow people from outside of football to interfere in the CBF election," a federation president told journalist Fernando Perrone's blog. The election is scheduled for the first half of next year.
To register a candidacy, a candidate needs the support of eight federations and five clubs from Série A. Something that Andrés, or any other name without Marin's support, seems incapable of achieving. The meeting, promoted by Francisco Novelletto, president of the Rio Grande do Sul Federation, was attended by the heads of the federations of Minas Gerais, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Pernambuco, Piauí, Maranhão, Rondônia, Pará, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul.
