Marília Arraes: the people no longer accept backroom deals.
"What is at stake now is not simply a candidacy or support. It is the positioning of a political field in one of the most complicated moments in the recent history of Brazilian politics," said pre-candidate Marília Arraes to PT delegates gathered in Pernambuco; "The Brazilian people no longer accept backroom deals between two adversaries who have fought each other for years," she criticized, also speaking of a "false left" and accusing the PSB of "blackmailing" the PT; watch her speech.
Pernambuco 247 - Addressing approximately 400 PT delegates at a state meeting in Pernambuco, pre-candidate for governor Marília Arraes urged those present to exercise "caution, attention, and respect" when voting on the PT's actions at the state level. She emphatically defended her candidacy for the party, opposing the agreement advocated by the National Executive Committee, which would remove her name from the race in favor of the PSB's national "neutrality."
"For more than two years we have been fighting against all attacks on democracy, against the dismantling of the Welfare State that we had during the PT governments, against the entire Brazilian national state that is being handed over to foreigners, and against all the dismantling that we are witnessing in the country," began the councilwoman from Recife.
"What's at stake now is not simply a candidacy or support. It's the positioning of a political field at one of the most complicated moments in the recent history of Brazilian politics. That's why everyone here has this commitment," he argued.
"Our candidacy is a necessity for the political field, to reclaim the left for political protagonism in Pernambuco, and not a false left that turns to the right when it is opportune, and when it is better returns to the left as if nothing had happened," he criticized.
"The Brazilian people no longer accept this type of tactic. We will no longer accept backroom deals between two adversaries who have fought each other for years," he continued.
"It's no use trying to unite the left through blackmail, as the PSB does. The PSB blackmails the PT by asking them to withdraw a candidacy that is part of the reality of Pernambuco, so that Pernambuco can get back on track," concluded the pre-candidate, asking for the support of those present.
