Rio Grande do Sul 247 - Federal deputy Marco Maia (PT-RS) praised his party's coalition in the race for the Planalto Palace. The party has former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as its candidate and former mayor of São Paulo Fernando Haddad as his running mate, with support from the PCdoB, Pros, and PCO parties.
If former president Lula's candidacy is challenged by the Electoral Court, state representative Manuela D'Ávila from Rio Grande do Sul will be his running mate for the Communist Party of Brazil.

Lula was convicted without evidence in the Guarujá (SP) triplex apartment case, with a sentence contested by several legal experts. He also had an arrest warrant issued without exhausting all judicial appeals. Even imprisoned, the former president leads in all polls.
