Tocantins 247 - The governor of Tocantins, Marcelo Miranda, met in an audience with the interim President of the Republic, Michel Temer, held at the Planalto Palace, this Thursday (9), in Brasília (DF). The renegotiation of the states' debts with the Union, a recurring subject in several meetings between governors and ministers in recent months, was discussed with the president due to the importance of approving the measure for the economic recovery of the states.
“We discussed the issue of state debts, talked about Tocantins' request to the BNDES [National Bank for Economic and Social Development], and reinforced the request for approval of the measure. We brought to the president the pending issues that we also presented to the ministers in the economic area, to reinforce our priorities with the federal government,” the governor pointed out.
The political support from the Tocantins delegation was also a highlight of the meeting. “We presented part of the Tocantins delegation in the Chamber of Deputies and showed that we are convinced that we must stand together. I see President Michel Temer determined to give our country a new shape,” emphasized Governor Marcelo Miranda at the end of the meeting.
Federal deputies Lázaro Botelho, César Halum, Josi Nunes, and Dulce Miranda, along with the head of the State Representation Office in Brasília, Renato de Assunção, accompanied the governor at the meeting.
Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management
The group was also received by the Minister of Budget, Planning and Management, Dyogo Oliveira. Governor Marcelo Miranda reiterated the requests that had already been presented yesterday at the Civil House and the General Secretariat of Government, regarding resources for infrastructure projects in Tocantins, which are already underway with the federal government.
At today's meeting, the construction of the Porto Nacional bridge was the main demand defended by the governor and parliamentarians. The difficulties faced by grain producers in the region and the disruptions caused by the detour, which passes through the urban area of Palmas, were argued to demonstrate the urgency of the project. "Tocantins grows by about 2% per year, more than the average of other states, and any capital investment in our infrastructure has a multiplier effect for the country," the governor emphasized.
