Manuela: Only the rich consider the price of diesel a national emergency.

The presidential candidate from the PCdoB criticized the 4,4% increase in the price of cooking gas; "More than 1,2 million households in Brazil are already cooking with firewood due to the gas price increase. There has been a surge in burn injuries from accidents involving alcohol in the kitchen. Only a Brazil governed by rich men considers the price of diesel a national emergency and not the price of gas."

Rio Grande do Sul 247 - Presidential pre-candidate Manuela D'Ávila (PCdoB) criticized the 4,4% increase in the price of cooking gas announced this Wednesday (4) by Petrobras.

"More than 1,2 million households in Brazil are already cooking with firewood due to the increase in gas prices. There has been a surge in burn injuries caused by accidents involving alcohol in the kitchen. Only a Brazil governed by rich men considers the price of diesel a national emergency and not the price of gas," Manuela wrote on her Twitter account.

The 13-kilogram cylinder will cost R$ 23.10 starting this Thursday (5). In the accumulated year, LPG shows an increase of 5,2%, compared to the price practiced in December of last year.

The state-owned company reported that the price adjustment is due to the devaluation of the real against the dollar, which fell by 16% between March and June alone, and to the 22,9% increase in the price of LPG on the international market during the same period.

When citing the figure of 1,2 million, Manuela was referring to data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD Contínua) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), released in April. According to the statistics, the percentage of households that switched to using charcoal or firewood instead of gas increased from 16,1% to 17,6%. An additional 1,2 million Brazilians stopped using cooking gas last year.
