Manuela strongly criticizes the US's "zero tolerance" policy towards immigrants.

"Orphans by decree of the White House. In the US and Mexico, children are being separated from their families. The crime? Being daughters of poor families trying to enter the US," said presidential candidate Manuela D'Ávila (PCdoB); "Only in major wars have we seen situations like this," she said; "Brazil needs to take a stand."

Rio Grande do Sul 247 – Manuela D'Ávila, the presidential candidate for the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), criticized the United States government under Donald Trump, which adopted a "zero tolerance" policy against immigrants and, as a consequence, leaves children of foreigners dependent on social services in the country.

"Orphans by decree of the White House. In the US/Mexico, children are being separated from their families. The crime? Being daughters of poor families trying to enter the US. Imagine how inhumane and frightening this can be? More than 2 children sent to unknown accommodations," the presidential candidate said on Twitter.

Between April 19 and May 31, 1.995 children were separated from their parents while attempting to enter the U.S. at official border crossings, according to statistics obtained by the Associated Press.

“Only in major wars have we seen situations like this. Meanwhile, American authorities are accusing each other and no one is taking the initiative to put an end to this violation of children's rights. Brazil needs to take a stand. It is urgent that they be returned to their families,” he added.
