ASN - Sergipe has been awarded 29 new Cuban professionals in the 2nd cycle of the "Mais Médicos" Program, from the Federal Government. They will arrive in Aracaju this Saturday, the 26th, on a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) flight, which will land at Santa Maria Airport in Aracaju at 15 pm, where they will be received by managers from the State Health Secretariat (SES) and supporters from the Ministry of Health (MS).

Among the professionals, nine are men and twenty are women who will work in 12 municipalities. In this phase, no Brazilian professionals registered to work in the state. "Priority for registration is given to professionals from the country. When vacancies are not filled, they are then offered to foreign doctors," explained the Director of Comprehensive Health Care, João Lima Júnior.

From the airport, they will proceed to their accommodation. On Tuesday the 29th, they will go to the Welcome Center at the Hotel Del Canto at 14 PM, where they will be introduced to the specifics of the Unified Health System (SUS) in Sergipe. From there, they will go to their respective municipalities: Umbaúba, Aquidabã, Boquim, Capela, Cristinápolis, Ilha das Flores, Pacatuba, Lagarto, Nossa Senhora das Dores, Nossa Senhora do Socorro, Poço Redondo, and Santa Luzia do Itanhy.

"In the first cycle, the doctors stayed in Aracaju for a week. During that period, they learned about local health indicators and completed the necessary paperwork to obtain their professional registration with the Regional Council of Medicine (CRM). This time, due to the Mais Médicos Program Law, which assigns the responsibility for issuing registration to professionals with diplomas from abroad to the Ministry of Health (MS), they will arrive in Sergipe already carrying this registration," said the State Coordinator of Primary Care, Guadalupe Ferreira.

More Doctors

The first cycle took place in September, when Sergipe received 29 professionals, including 17 Brazilians, two exchange students, and 10 Cubans. During this period, eight Brazilian professionals withdrew from the program, totaling 21 doctors, who were distributed among 10 municipalities. With the arrival of these professionals in this new phase, Sergipe completes 30% coverage of the "Mais Médicos" program in its territory. "This is a cyclical program, which launches an application process every 45 days, on average," reinforces João Lima Júnior.
