More money in Pernambuco's coffers.
An agreement signed between the Federal and State Governments guarantees the transfer of funds for infrastructure; in total, R$ 20 billion from BNDES will reach the coffers of all states; the portion allocated to Pernambuco has not been revealed.
– The State has secured resources for investment in infrastructure projects that will generate jobs and mitigate the risks of the economic crisis. The release of funds by the Federal Government was announced at a meeting between President Dilma Rousseff (PT) with governors, ministers and other authorities, this Friday (15), in Brasília. In total, R$ 20 billion will reach state coffers, but the amount that will go to Pernambuco was not disclosed.
The governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos (PSB), considered President Dilma Rousseff's initiative to open this special line of credit "timely and capable of producing positive effects." "This action addresses the concern we all have, that it is necessary to accelerate the pace of investments to generate new jobs and protect existing ones. This is the way to keep us sheltered from the crisis," he commented.
Pernambuco is a candidate to be one of the first states in the federation to access resources to be used for roads, housing, water pipelines, and sanitation. According to the state government, the reason for this is the ample margin for contracting financing, as it only commits 38% of its Net Current Revenue, when the limit is 200%. The funds will reach the states through the National Development Bank (BNDES).
"What's important is to acknowledge the government's initiative at an extremely delicate moment, with worrying news about the worsening crisis in Europe," said Eduardo, noting the similarities between the current situation and the 2009 financial crisis.
