Machado again defends João's reelection in 2016.

Aracaju's vice-mayor, José Carlos Machado (PSDB), believes that Senator Eduardo Amorim (PSC) should not be a candidate for mayor of the capital and reaffirmed his support for the re-election of João Alves Filho (DEM); “I think Eduardo will not be a candidate. Given the current conditions, our candidate for mayor is João Alves. If he doesn't run, the PSDB can nominate someone. In 2016 we will be ready to maintain the alliance. I told João that I will participate in the 2016 and 2018 elections,” he stated.

PMA - With just over a year to go before the 2016 elections, speculation about alliances and potential candidates is already emerging. Given this landscape of expectations, the vice-mayor of Aracaju, José Carlos Machado (PSDB), assesses the current political scenario and outlines his political conduct.

On that occasion, the vice-mayor of Aracaju assessed the political landscape in the state of Sergipe and also considered the impasses that could compromise political projects. According to Machado, one factor that interferes with the political dynamics is the large number of parties and the constant migration of members.

“We have 34 parties in Brazil. In the world there are only three or four. Here it's opposition and power. When it comes to consistency here in Sergipe, cases are rare. I myself have been in a group since I began my public life and I follow the guidelines of my party. I only speak for the PSDB. After all, if the party convention makes one decision and I make another, it means I'm rebelling,” emphasizes Machado.

Amid so many considerations, there was speculation about a possible candidacy of Senator Eduardo Amorim (PSC) for mayor of the capital. There was also questioning regarding the support of Machado and the PSDB, should the senator enter the race for the administration of the Sergipe capital against the current mayor of Aracaju, João Alves Filho (DEM).

“I think he won’t be a candidate. Given the current conditions, our mayoral candidate is João Alves. If he doesn’t run, the PSDB can nominate someone. In 2016 we will be ready to maintain the alliance. I told João that I will participate in the 2016 and 2018 elections,” he assesses.

According to the PSDB member, for the group to remain strong, it is essential that there is cohesion within the parties and that its members remain faithful to the party ideals. “It is necessary to reassess some members who do not vote for PSDB candidates. This happened with the mayors of Itabaianinha, Itaporanga, and Lagarto. We had a candidate for federal deputy, a city councilor from Lagarto, who did not receive support. We appealed to the mayors, but there was no agreement,” he laments.

Lamentations aside, the vice-mayor of Aracaju positioned himself as a leader and revealed what he would do in a situation of political impasse among party members. “If I were a leader in a municipality, if the mayoral candidate wanted to remain in the party, even if rebellious, I would call them in for a meeting. Those who disagreed with the alliance in 2014 should have made their position clear,” he emphasized.

He further stated that PSDB/Sergipe is already mobilizing to avoid similar conflicts in the 2016 municipal elections. "We haven't decided anything yet, but today we will meet to define the future of the rebels," assures José Carlos Machado.
