Bahia 247 - During a technical visit to the Line 2 metro works, this Friday (12), the head of the Secretariat of Urban Development (Sedur), Carlos Martins, said that the construction continues "at an advanced pace, which gives us the peace of mind to meet the established deadlines and even anticipate the completion scheduled for the end of 2017". Line 2, which has more than 55% of the works completed, will have an extension to Lauro de Freitas, in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (RMS) and another bus/metro integration terminal in the airport region.

Martins visited the construction site accompanied by the president of the Bahia State Transportation Company (CTB), Eduardo Copello, and the president of CCR Metrô Bahia, Luís Valença. The group departed from the Detran Station and proceeded to the Pituaçu Station, which includes the future Pituaçu Integration Terminal. The first station on Line 2 (North Access) is completed, and the Detran station is undergoing finishing touches. The expectation is that the extended section, reaching the Bus Station, will be operational by the end of this year.

On the Paralela Avenue, the first stations (Imbuí and CAB) are in the final stages of completion, with an estimated start date for operation in the first half of 2017. The works on this stretch include the opening of a new express lane, directly connecting to the Raul Seixas Viaduct and Bonocô Avenue. A bike lane and jogging track are also being built along the avenue. According to the secretary, there will be greater traffic flow in the region, and later, with the expansion of integration with metropolitan buses via the Mussurunga terminal, traffic will become even freer with the removal of some bus lines from circulation.

With the completion of the works, adding Line 1 and Line 2 together, the metro will have 41 kilometers of extension, making Salvador the city with the third largest metro network in the country, behind only São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. "These are interventions that will change the entire urban configuration of the city, guaranteeing more mobility and quality of life for the population," said Carlos Martins.
