Lindbergh and Teixeira mourn the death of Waldir Pires.
Senator Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) described former Bahia governor Waldir Pires, a member of the PT party, as an "admirable figure." Pires passed away at age 91 due to cardiorespiratory arrest. Deputy Paulo Teixeira (PT-SP) stated that it is "a sad day for all of us who fight for a more just Brazil."
Bahia 247 - Senator Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) described former Bahia governor Waldir Pires, who was affiliated with the PT and died at age 91 this Friday (22), in Salvador, due to cardiorespiratory arrest, as an "admirable figure".
"Waldir Pires, former governor of Bahia and former federal deputy, has died. An admirable figure, a life dedicated to the fight for democracy. My condolences to his family and friends," Lindbergh wrote on Twitter.
On the same social network, federal deputy Paulo Teixeira (PT-SP) said that the former head of the Bahia state government was a "great Brazilian." "A sad day for all of us who fight for a more just Brazil. Waldir Pires, present!", he said.
In addition to being governor, Pires was Minister of Social Security (1985-1986), federal deputy (1990-1994/1999-2003) and city councilor (2013-2016).
