Lídice says it's "absurd" to be left out of Rui's ticket.
Senator Lídice da Mata (PSB) describes as "absurd" the possibility of not running for re-election on Rui Costa's (PT) ticket and says that "they want to remove the only woman from the governor's main ticket"; Lídice's exclusion irritates the PSB, with whom the PT is negotiating a national alliance; however, other alternatives have been offered to the senator and the PSB by PT leaders in Bahia.
Bahia 247 – During an event in Salvador on Tuesday night (19), Senator Lídice da Mata (PSB) described as “absurd” the possibility of not running for re-election to the Senate on the ticket headed by Governor Rui Costa (PT). “And in Bahia they want to remove the only woman from the governor’s main ticket,” the senator said.
Much more than that, the Lídice case in Bahia raises a national political discussion about an alliance between the PT and the PSB for this year's elections. Her likely exclusion from Rui's ticket to make room for the PP and PSD has caused irritation within the national PSB leadership, with whom the PT is negotiating an alliance for the presidential race.
The PP and PSD parties will hold the vice-governor and senator positions, respectively, in the alliance. Current vice-governor João Leão (PP) and the president of the Legislative Assembly of Bahia, Ângelo Coronel (PSD), will be the names on the ticket. The other senatorial seat will be filled by former governor and former Minister of the Civil House Jaques Wagner (PT). The announcement of the ticket, however, has not yet been officially made.
In any case, some proposals have already been offered by the leaders of the Workers' Party government in Bahia to Lídice da Mata's PSB party: state deputy, and if elected, president of the Assembly and candidate for mayor of Salvador; the PSB was also invited by Governor Rui Costa to occupy the substitute position for the pre-candidate for the Senate, Jaques Wagner; to be a candidate for federal deputy; and also for Rui Costa's group to work with allied mayors to guarantee the election of two more pre-candidates for federal deputy from the PSB.
