The Civil Police operation against Marcos Lula da Silva, son of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has generated outrage from the PT (Workers' Party) caucus in the São Paulo Legislative Assembly; "The state deputies of the PT demand clarifications from Governor Geraldo Alckmin and his Secretary of Public Security regarding the reasons for this operation, which is clearly political in nature," says the PT leader, Deputy Alencar Santana Braga; "As well as demanding the identification of the author of the false accusation. We cannot allow public institutions to be used in a discretionary manner and for political purposes. Everyone loses with this, especially the Democratic Rule of Law," says Braga.

The group of state deputies from the Workers' Party (PT) in São Paulo has been alerting the public and party members about the hate campaign – fueled by media outlets and political groups – against former president Lula, as well as against his family and the Workers' Party.

In this context, an unfounded search operation was carried out by the Civil Police at the home of Marcos Lula da Silva, the former president's son, based on an alleged anonymous tip involving the presence of drugs and weapons at the residence. However, nothing was found and no violations of the law were detected.

The state deputies from the PT party are demanding clarification from Governor Geraldo Alckmin and his Secretary of Public Security regarding the reasons for this operation, which is clearly political in nature.

Just as they demand the identification of the author of the false accusation. We cannot allow public institutions to be used in a discretionary manner and for political purposes. Everyone loses with this, especially the Democratic Rule of Law.

To the former president, relentlessly persecuted by sectors terrified of his political capacity and leadership of the people, and leading in all opinion polls for 2018, we offer our support and solidarity.
