PSB leader announces: "Campos is a candidate"
The mystery is solved. The governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos, will be a candidate for president of the Republic in 2014. "This is a consensus within the PSB," said the party leader, deputy Beto Albuquerque, in an interview with journalist Josias de Souza; according to him, the governor of Pernambuco is "enthusiastic" and does not intend to be Dilma's vice-president nor wait for an opportunity only in 2018.
247 - Eduardo Campos, governor of Pernambuco and national president of the PSB party, is a candidate for president of the Republic in 2014. The party leader in the Chamber of Deputies, Beto Albuquerque, announced the end of the mystery in an interview with journalist [name missing]. Josias de SouzaCheck out some excerpts:
Campos Agenda
Within the limitations of his governorship, he will travel throughout Brazil. He's coming to Rio Grande do Sul on April 9th. There will be a party event to mark my 50th birthday. We want to gather around 2 people. He will also give a lecture at the Freedom Forum, organized by the Institute for Business Studies.
Travel around Brazil
We should have similar events in other states. Our idea is to provide Eduardo with opportunities to present his ideas on public spending policy, planning, and development. These are areas he is knowledgeable about and that have brought him considerable recognition.
Application
Our party views the possibility of him being a candidate with complete enthusiasm. There is a consensus within the PSB, even because of the lessons we learned from Lula himself. Lula didn't wait for someone to offer him the opportunity. He started running, lost three elections and won the others. So, we have to see the window of opportunity that has opened before us. There is a certain exhaustion with this PSDB-PT dichotomy. It's been 20 years already. In Eduardo, we have a tested, proven leader. He's a good manager, a politician, and he's young. We can't miss this opportunity.
Eduardo Campos's willingness
He is enthusiastic. He knows the difficulties, he doesn't ignore the size of the challenge. We highly value two qualities: being grounded and being humble. We are experiencing a good moment. But there is still much to be done. We started from a very good base. Eduardo has been handling economic and management issues well in Pernambuco. You go to the Port of Suape and you see 50 people working there. Entrepreneurs arrive in Pernambuco and find no difficulty in setting up shop and producing.
Invitation to be Dilma's vice president
Lula knows this is impossible. The PT has so greatly enriched the PMDB that there's no turning back from this alliance. There's no going back. The PMDB can rest easy with us. What we want isn't their space. We want another space, our space.
Wait until 2018
It's not a matter of waiting until 2018. The time has come to seize the opportunity for leadership in 2014. Who is the leader emerging and provoking debate now? It's not Aécio Neves. It's Eduardo Campos. This leadership is largely due to our own will. But it also stems from the facts. Things are happening.
