"Moreirinha Law" generates protests in the Chamber of Deputies.

Mayor Paulo Garcia's project exclusively benefits the Hiper Moreira supermarket in the Coimbra sector; the proposal involves the exchange of public areas for the expansion of the business; opposition council members are against the measure and have requested a review of the process; this is yet another case of the exchange, sale, or declassification of public areas involving the city hall; the mayor previously wanted to sell even the land surrounding the City Hall and was blocked by the Public Prosecutor's Office; the project does not even have opinions from the Planning Secretariat and the Municipal Transportation Authority.

"Moreirinha Law" generates protests in the Chamber of Deputies.

Goiás 247_ After a lengthy discussion that dominated Tuesday's session, the Executive's bill to reclassify municipal public areas in the Coimbra sector (street 278 and others) from their original designations was postponed to Wednesday for a vote. Dubbed the "Moreirinha Law" by opposition council members, the bill favors the Moreira Hypermarket, which would be the sole beneficiary of the reclassification.

The opposition council members are completely against the project. In their opinion, it's just another measure from the Executive branch aimed at pleasing business owners and the private sector. The city hall is a repeat offender in these cases, having previously tried to sell even the areas surrounding the Municipal Palace. The Public Prosecutor's Office prevented the sale, and the project was halted.

"This project has no public interest whatsoever; it only aims to serve a businessman, a company, in this case, Moreirinha," accused Elias Vaz, back in December of last year.

The “Moreirinha Law” returns to the voting agenda this Wednesday, after a request for review by councilman Thiago Albernaz (PSDB). During today's session, two other council members also requested a review of the process, but were defeated in the plenary session.

Geovani Antonio (PSDB) and Virmondes Cruvinel (PSD) had their requests denied on the advice of the mayor's leader in the House, councilwoman Célia Valadão (PMDB), who requested a reconsideration of the request, allowing the project to be approved in the first vote.

Geovani insisted that the project could not be voted on without a technical opinion from the Municipal Planning Secretariat, as well as a traffic impact study that should be carried out by the Municipal Transit Agency, in addition to a neighborhood impact study, since the project modifies the neighborhood's road system.

The mayor's representative suggested holding a public hearing with all parties involved, in the Housing and Urban Planning Committee, where the project will be sent after its first vote. Célia suggests inviting representatives from municipal agencies, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the population of the sector that will be affected by the measure proposed by the Executive Branch, before the project goes through its second and final vote in the Plenary.
