Legislatures resume work today.
The Fortaleza City Council resumes its legislative work for the second half of 2016 today with a solemn session. However, the first ordinary session will only be held tomorrow, August 2nd. Mayor Roberto Cláudio is expected to read the mayoral message for the second half of 2016. The Legislative Assembly also officially returns today, but will only hold a session tomorrow, as is customary. A ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Maria da Penha Law is scheduled for today at 15 PM in the 13 de Maio Plenary Hall.
The Fortaleza City Council will hold a solemn session this Monday, August 1st, to open the 2nd Legislative Period of 2016. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM at Praça da Cidadania Barros Pinho, where the flags of Brazil, the State of Ceará, and the Municipality of Fortaleza will be raised. The civic event will feature the presence of the 10th Military Region Band.
On that occasion, speeches are expected from Mayor Roberto Cláudio (PDT), with the mayoral message for the second period of 2016, and from President Salmito Filho. The first ordinary session of the 2nd Legislative Period will be held tomorrow, August 2nd.

Federal Law No. 11.340, named after Maria da Penha Maia Fernandes, is a tribute to the Brazilian pharmacist who, in 1983, suffered serious abuse from her husband, the Colombian university professor Marco Antonio Heredia Vivero, who attempted to kill her on two occasions.
