Laércio: "The average citizen thinks the same as Cid about Congress"

Last week, the Federal Chamber was the scene of a major controversy, with former minister Cid Gomes (Pros) speaking against parliamentarians, who, in his view, are "extortionists" of the government; for federal deputy Laércio Oliveira (SDD), Cid's stance, while a minister, should not have been that way, as it represented "a disrespect"; however, the parliamentarian stressed that "many people agreed with the statement"; federal deputy Valadares Filho (PSB) considered Cid Gomes' attitude "unnecessary" given the political moment the country is going through; while Senator Eduardo Amorim (PSC) pointed out that "Brazil did not deserve to witness this type of episode".

Valter Lima, from Sergipe 247 - Last week, the Federal Chamber was the scene of a major controversy, with the speech by former minister Cid Gomes (Pros) against parliamentarians, who, in his view, are "blackmailers" (extortionists) of the federal government. Following the statement, which led to Gomes' resignation, 247 interviewed several politicians from Sergipe about the matter.

Federal deputy Laércio Oliveira (SDD) said that Cid's stance, while he was a minister, should not have been that way, as it represented "a lack of respect." However, the congressman stressed that "many people agreed with the statement."

“There are many people who, if they were there, would say the same thing. The average citizen thinks the same, because we don't set a good example and we live with these things. Does this only happen in Congress? No. The same thing happens in many places, but the population is more aware. And, unfortunately, some politicians don't respect themselves and don't practice honest, decent politics focused on the interests of the country, causing so many scandals. That's why people form this perception. I am a congressman, I am part of the House, I love my job, but I think we need to take care of our image so that events like this don't happen again,” he stated.

Federal deputy Valadares Filho (PSB) also considered Cid Gomes' attitude "unnecessary" given the current political climate in the country. "I thought it was an exaggeration. At a time like this, his attitude doesn't contribute. Public figures should have responsibility and solutions to problems instead of pitting one branch of government against another or against society. What the population wants is solutions to social and economic problems," he argued.

Senator Eduardo Amorim (PSC) pointed out that "Brazil did not deserve to witness this type of episode." "It was extremely unfortunate. It was not good for parliament, nor for him, nor for the government. The people deserve a respectful debate. There was a lack of balance in conducting it. This is not how our democracy is strengthened," he stated.
