Kfouri kicks Fair Play and patrols even his friend FHC.

Sports columnist attacks former president for courtesy gesture to José Maria Marin in the Maracanã stadium's VIP boxes; has civility gone out of fashion?

Kfouri kicks Fair Play and patrols even his friend FHC.

247 – In the VIP boxes at the Maracanã stadium, during the Brazil vs. England game on Sunday the 2nd, three public figures met: former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso, accompanied by the senator and presidential candidate Aécio Neves, and the president of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), José Maria Marin. As is common in any civilized place in the world, they greeted each other, exchanged pleasantries and, judging by their personal expressions, were photographed.

Any problems?

According to sports columnist Juca Kfouri, yes, there was a big problem there. Choosing his neighbor in the Higienópolis neighborhood as his target, Kfouri continued his crusade against the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), declaring himself in "mourning and protest" over FHC's (Fernando Henrique Cardoso's) gesture, let's repeat, a courteous one, in relation to Marin.
What we have here is that the criticisms that the journalist usually makes of the entity since Ricardo Teixeira's administration have now moved beyond the political arena and into the personal realm.

What alternative would Kfouri propose? Turn your back, look the other way, pretend you don't know them? Start a fight? Brazilian tradition of civility teaches that there is, strictly speaking, nothing wrong with a friendly handshake. Between friends or between adversaries. Political disagreement is one thing, and personal politeness is another.

Or is Fair Play, a term that in football means elegance and respect for the opponent, no longer worth anything?

Below is the note from Juca's Blog:
What a shame, professor!

Fernando Henrique Cardoso spent eight years as President of the Republic and, although by virtue of his office he received Ricardo Teixeira at the Palácio do Planalto (Presidential Palace), he never allowed a photo to be taken with the complicated former president of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation).
And wouldn't you know it, now, without any official position and without any obligation to associate with anyone, he was caught in the CBF's (Brazilian Football Confederation) VIP box at the Maracanã stadium, smiling, with José Maria Marin who, from a political standpoint, is incomparably worse than Teixeira?
The blog publishes the photo in a very small size as a sign of shame, mourning, and protest.
And it's a profound disappointment.
