Tocantins 247 - Senator and PMDB candidate for re-election, Kátia Abreu, retaliated in grand style against the mayor of Palmas, Carlos Amastha (PP), for the criticisms he made during the convention of Solidariedade and allied parties, on Monday, the 30th.
In a meeting this Wednesday, the 2nd, with the Minister of Planning, Miriam Belchior, Senator Kátia Abreu was informed about the authorization of resources in the order of R$ 10 million from the federal government, which will be allocated to the construction of a sports arena and an Olympic swimming pool in the Capital for the holding of the World Indigenous Games.
According to Kátia's press office, the funds had been requested by her directly from President Dilma Rousseff and will be transferred through the Ministry of Sports. Minister Miriam Belchior assured Senator Kátia Abreu that R$ 5 million will be allocated before the elections and the remainder by the end of the year.
"This is my response to the gratuitous attacks I suffered from Mayor Carlos Amastha in his speech at the convention of his Siqueira allies," the congresswoman said on Wednesday afternoon, emphasizing that she will not change her determination to bring resources to the capital and to the people of Palmas because of attacks or political provocations from the mayor, now an ally of the Araguaia Palace.
During a speech at the SD convention, Carlos Amastha stated that the opposition "rummaged through the life" of Governor Sandoval Cardoso and "the only thing they found was a photo of him next to a dead jaguar." "Could it be that this jaguar invaded properties because of the deforestation that someone is doing around here?", in an indirect reference to Kátia, a national leader in agribusiness. Amastha also said that "this lady" promised in her 2012 campaign "a Veja magazine cover story" with accusations against him, which never happened. "We have to sweep the old politics out of the state," he argued.
The World Indigenous Games will be held in June 2015 in the capital city. The decision by the Ministry of Sports was made after efforts by Senator Kátia Abreu in April with Minister Aldo Rebelo, at the request of the Intertribal Committee. Defending the project presented by Mayor Carlos Amastha, Kátia also asked President Dilma Rousseff to make Palmas the definitive host city for the World Indigenous Games, which are expected to receive more than two thousand athletes from about 30 countries next year. The Senator has also met with the president of the national SEBRAE (Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service) to facilitate a large indigenous crafts fair during the event.
Amastha thanks
In response to the senator's announcement, Amastha used his Twitter account. "There is no ideological dispute when we are dealing with the interests of our city. Every effort in favor of Palmas will be very welcome," he stated. The mayor also said that his team is on standby to meet the requirements for the release of the funds and that he would have only 48 hours to do so.
