Tocantins 247 Senator Kátia Abreu (PMDB-TO) requested that the president of Embrapa, Maurício Antônio Lopes, implement Observation Units for Forage Palm in the Matopiba region. The request was accompanied by technical and scientific studies that attest to its viability and opportunity. According to the senator, forage palm could be an alternative in the states of Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí, and Bahia, which are annually plagued by drought for up to six months of the year.

The parliamentarian explains in the request that studies indicate that the forage palm can withstand these months. The palm as animal feed has gained popularity due to its adaptation to hot and dry environments and good production of green mass, guaranteeing productivity and profitability during the dry season.

The units requested by the Senator from Embrapa could be installed through a partnership between that company, Sebrae, and Senar of Tocantins.
