Kassab launches his candidacy for governor of São Paulo.
The former mayor affirms that the imminent officialization of his party's support for President Dilma Rousseff (PT) will not prevent the PSD from having its own candidate for the Palácio dos Bandeirantes (São Paulo state government headquarters); joining the government base depends on the promise of allocating a ministry to the party; Guilherme Afif Domingos, currently vice-governor of São Paulo, is expected to be appointed in March as head of the Secretariat for Micro and Small Enterprises – a department that has not yet been created.
247 - Former São Paulo mayor Gilberto Kassab, president of the PSD party, declared his candidacy for governor of São Paulo in the 2014 elections yesterday in Brasília.
In an interview with Folha, he stated that the support his party is about to formalize for the reelection of President Dilma Rousseff (PT) will not prevent the PSD from having its own candidate for the Palácio dos Bandeirantes (São Paulo state government headquarters).
"State circumstances are different from national circumstances," he said. "I dream of one day having the opportunity to offer my name, my work, to be governor of São Paulo."
If the candidacy is confirmed, Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB) will compete with three candidates from the government's base for reelection. Besides Kassab, Paulo Skaf (PMDB) and a candidate from the PT, currently undecided, are expected to be in the running.
Lula, who had already explored launching Gabriel Chalita (PMDB) in exchange for the vice-presidential slot under Temer, is now considering the candidacy of Finance Minister Guido Mantega for the PT.
Before officially joining Dilma's support base, the PSD hopes to gain a ministry. Guilherme Afif Domingos, currently vice-governor of São Paulo, is expected to be appointed in March as head of the Secretariat for Micro and Small Enterprises – a department that has not yet been created.
