RS247 – The courts are considering a reconstruction of events at the Kiss nightclub in Santa Maria, in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul. Judge Ulysses Fonseca Louzada sent an official letter to the city hall on Wednesday (17), ordering the site to be cleaned without altering the building's structure. "Once the building has been decontaminated, I will assess whether the reconstruction can be carried out or not," declared Ulysses. The information is from the newspaper Zero Hora. At the end of January, a fire at the nightclub caused the death of 236 people and injured another 100. The tragedy had international repercussions and is considered the biggest tragedy in the history of Rio Grande do Sul.

According to Civil Police delegate Sandro Meinerz, who led the investigations into the fire, the reconstruction is necessary. "It would be important because it would give a true picture of what happened that night," he stated. The Military Police maintains a police officer on duty 24 hours a day providing security for the establishment.

In August, Judge Fonseca Louzada had ruled against carrying out the simulation, arguing that there would be a risk of contamination for people entering the nightclub. This was because a report by the Center for Occupational Health Reference (Cerest) confirmed the existence of more than 200 types of chemical products inside the nightclub. But the impasse came to light.

Following the analysis, the judge requested that the State Public Prosecutor's Office, the municipality of Santa Marina, and the Environmental Protection Foundation (Fepam) take steps to clean up the nightclub. However, while Fepam attributed responsibility to the municipal government, the latter argued that they were only waiting for a court order releasing the building so they could then notify the company that owns the property, Econn Empreendimentos de Turismo e Hotelaria, and carry out the cleanup.
